This policy explains what the Luna app (“Luna”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the Luna app for iPhone, iPad and Android and to this website.
The short version
- Your child’s name never leaves your device. It is not sent to us or to anyone else.
- No accounts, no sign-up. Luna creates an anonymous account automatically. We don’t ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- No ads and no ad tracking. Luna contains no advertising and does not use advertising identifiers.
- Minimal usage data. We collect anonymous information about how the app is used (for example, which stories are opened and finished) to improve it.
- We never sell data.
What stays on your device
The following is stored only on your phone or tablet and is never sent to us: your child’s name, the stories you have downloaded, and your settings (language, story length, music volume). If you delete the app, this information is deleted with it.
What we collect
To make Luna work across launches and to keep your progress safe, the app sends a small amount of data to our servers:
- An anonymous account. A random identifier created when you first open the app. It is not linked to your name, email or phone number.
- Child profiles, without names. For each child profile: a random identifier, whether the hero is a boy or a girl, and which avatar picture is used.
- Reading activity. For each child profile: favourite stories, story ratings (1–5 stars), stickers earned, and a reading log (which story, the language, short or long version, how many pages were read, whether it was finished, and when).
- Usage events. Anonymous events such as “app opened”, “story opened”, “story finished”, “sticker earned”, “paywall viewed” or “purchase completed”, with small details (for example the story number, the language, or the plan chosen). Each event includes a random install identifier, the app version, the platform (iOS or Android) and the time.
- Purchases. If you subscribe to Luna Pro, the App Store or Google Play processes the payment. We receive the subscription status, product and transaction details, linked to your anonymous account. We never see your card or billing details.
- Technical data. When the app downloads stories, our content servers receive the standard information any internet request includes, such as an IP address and device type, which may be kept briefly in server logs.
Feedback emails. If you choose “Email us”, your own email app sends the message, so we receive your email address and anything you write. We use it only to reply. Sharing. If you share an achievement card or the app, your device’s share sheet handles it; Luna does not see who you share with. The achievement card never shows your child’s name.
How we use it
- To provide the app: keep favourites, ratings, stickers, streaks and progress in sync and restore them.
- To provide Luna Pro: check whether a subscription is active and restore purchases.
- To improve Luna: understand which stories are read and finished, and fix problems. We look at this information in aggregate.
- To answer your messages.
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent personal information. Where privacy law requires a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you asked for and on our legitimate interest in keeping Luna working and improving it.
Children’s privacy
Luna is designed for parents and caregivers to use with children aged 2 to 8. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children: child profiles stored on our servers have no name, and the app does not ask children for contact details, photos, voice or location. The only identifiers we use are random ones, for the app’s internal operations (keeping progress in sync, counting usage and preventing problems), never for advertising.
Actions that send a message or change account data, such as emailing us or deleting a child profile, are behind a parent check. Luna takes part in the Google Play Families programme rules: no ads, no advertising ID, and only service providers that meet its requirements. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers who process data for us, under contracts that limit them to providing their service:
- Supabase: database and anonymous accounts (stores the data listed above).
- RevenueCat: manages Luna Pro subscriptions and purchase restores.
- Apple App Store and Google Play: app distribution and payments, under their own privacy policies.
- Our content hosting provider: delivers story text and pictures to the app.
These providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep data
- Usage events: deleted after 90 days. We keep only daily totals that cannot identify anyone.
- Child profiles and reading activity: until you delete the profile in the app or ask us to delete it.
- Subscription records: as long as needed to provide Luna Pro and meet legal and accounting obligations.
- Feedback emails: as long as needed to handle your message.
Your choices and rights
- Delete a child profile: when you have more than one profile, edit the child in the app and choose “Delete profile”. This removes the profile and its favourites, ratings, stickers and reading log from your device and our servers. To delete your only profile, contact us.
- Delete everything on your device: uninstall the app.
- Access, correct or delete server data: contact us. Because Luna does not know who you are, we will explain how to identify your anonymous account so we can act on the right data.
- Subscriptions: manage or cancel in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
Depending on where you live (for example the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or California), you may have additional rights, such as to object to processing, to restrict it, to data portability, or to complain to your local data protection authority. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections. On our servers, access rules ensure each anonymous account can read and change only its own data, and usage events can be written but not read by the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we collect small so there is little to protect.
This website
This website does not use cookies for advertising or tracking. Names typed on a story page to preview personalisation stay in your browser and are never sent to us. The story quiz runs entirely in your browser. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, and if we enable analytics it will be a cookie-free, privacy-friendly service.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Luna handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app.
Contact
For questions or requests about privacy, email us at [email protected], or use “Email us” in the Luna app (at the end of any story, behind the parent check), which opens your email app with a message addressed to the same address.
