Why we made Luna

Luna grew out of Storyteller, an earlier English and Arabic bedtime-story app, and was rebuilt from scratch around one idea: a story app should behave like a good picture book. It should be read together, it should end, and it shouldn’t compete for a child’s attention.

Everything in Luna follows from that:

  • Illustrated picture-book stories, one page at a time, read aloud by a parent or caregiver.
  • The hero takes your child’s name and is a boy or a girl to match.
  • Two versions of every story: short (ages 2–5) and long (ages 6+).
  • Works offline: free stories ship with the app and downloaded stories stay on the device.
  • Every story ends. No feed, no autoplay, no ads.
  • A sticker for each finished story (at most two a day) and a reading streak.
  • Your child’s name never leaves the device.
  • English and Arabic, on iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets.

How we write about research

We make a story app, so we hold ourselves to clear rules when we write about research:

  1. Every claim links to its source. Our research library lists all 7 studies and guidelines we cite, with links to the originals.
  2. We say what a study doesn’t show. Most research on screens is observational. Each summary states its sample and limits.
  3. We cite research about reading stories. Every study we quote is about what reading together does for children, and we quote it for what it found, no more.
  4. No invented numbers. No made-up user counts, ratings, reviews or testimonials, anywhere on this site.
  5. Not medical advice. For concerns about your child’s sleep or development, talk to your paediatrician.
  6. Corrections. If you find an error, tell us with “Email us” in the Luna app. We fix mistakes and update the date on the page.
